My boyfriend is cutting himself and talking about suicide?

He cut himself today and showed me, and I tried to get him to tell me why, but he wouldn't. He said that he's been really depressed lately because we haven't been talking as much as he would like us to, and that I'm the only person keeping him from killing himself.

He also keeps talking about really elaborate ways to kill himself, and showing me disturbing drawings he made of people committing suicide, but when I try to ask him about it seriously, he says he is joking...

I have no idea what to do, I haven't told anyone because I really don't have many friends to talk to at this point, but I know that I should do something because I may be responsible if he does any more harm to himself.

Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated.
 
This is really disturbing, maybe you can tell him to see a psychiatrist to talk about his problems if he doesn't feel like confiding to you. I suggest that you should always check your boyfriend and see if he's okay.
