My blackberry isn't signed up for internet but I can still check yahoo and other things?

Does this cost me money? I can't search the web as in typing a url in but I could go to a bunch of sites including espn eventually. I was recently sent a refurbished phone cuz my old blackberry flip broke if that would affect anything. So just wondering if this fine, if it costs to send emails or whatever info you know. Thanks
