My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding

The wedding dresses looked like they were made with a lot of netting and man made fibre/nylon, therefore not expensive fabrics so maybe they aren't that dear - also at the end it looked like the wedding dress woman was taking some of the dress back (Joan's wedding) so maybe they recycle

Felt for Joan aswell when they panned the venue and there were loaRAB of empty tables, having got married last year I couldn't help but wonder how on earth you could give the venue numbers - and if you said 50 - 250 for the buffet the hotel may get suspicious

I just wondered at the Top of the Range ML's at least 40k of car pity I can't afford that - mind you I pay tax ....

no not at all. Their whole outlook on life is backward. None of the poor girls have a hope in hell. No education, just bang out babies, a life of benefits and attending more tacky weddings. But yes, they dress pretty crap. I'm sure you wouldn't like your daughter to dress as a hooker to the local fair?

I was going to point out that he's v much alive and kicking but wasn't sure if it was a fictional thing or not. Never can tell with luvvies.

Sorry. Will go to Specsavers

I was speaking to a friend last week about the wedding on TV and he said that he went to one of them - he is a member of the gypsy clan. He told me how much the wedding dress cost - the largest of the lot and the price of the wedding, I nearly fell off my chair:eek::eek:, no wonder the dressmaker didnt want to say how much she charged. I certainly won't say either.

His family are settled in the area, and have always been friendly and got on but even he moans about how bad some of his cousins are.

He and his brothers have married "outsiders" who are nice and dont dress like the ones seen in the show who looked like lapdancers.

I know a lot of travellers and they have all got far more money than me. Most of the ones I know are settled and some live in houses. By god you should see the insides. All gold and lame and massive curtains with these incredibally intricate pelmets and hangey bits. Not one single picture on the walls anywhere and not a thing standing on their kitchen worktops - weird! Their hygiene in their houses borders on the obsessive with anything that can get dirty covered up. One family round here are into house building and very well off - then to cap it all a few months ago they won over

Since I originally watched the programme, I just wanted to give an update.

I was one of the people who had positive experiences with gypsies living next door. I still stand by that 100%.

Going in to my local town, I have twice been cornered by two women wanting to read my fortune. When i have said no thank you, they have then really tried to force me to buy lucky charms. The people who stayed next door to me would never do that.

There have also been a couple of caravans pitch up on ground illegally down the road from me. I couldn't help but notice how much mess they have made.

Now the people who worked for my dad used to move round all year going from work place to work place and caused no trouble whatsoever.

These people I have come in to contact with recently, seem to be very different.

I am not sure what the destinction between romany gypsy/travellers and tinkers are, the the two groups that I have come in to contact with seem very different from each other.

I know someone who's a romany gypsy and she's actually quite nice, in fact you wouldn't know she was one, she talks fairly normally and sounded interested to hear about what I study at university.

I for one really enjoyed this programme and could have watched another hour, it made me laugh out loud and I understood their culture a bit more. i really would like to see all occasions, christenings, funerals etc. I think it was facinating as well as thought provoking and I really want to find out how the couples are doing, in particular Joan.
