It's a 2004 and turn the ignition to the on posistion it locks the door when you turn it off it unlocks them. Is this normal? We tried disabling and reenabling the auto lock feature but it does this in both modes. It's a hassle because if u start the truck with the door open and shutit to go do something your locked out. What can we do about this?

From what I have heard, thats the safety lock (child lock)
One thing you could do is have another key made for the door close it you can re-open it, hop in and get on your way.
Just don't leave the another key in the car. lol

in 2002 dodge unveiled the (safety lock) which is when the vehicle hits a speed of 12 mph the doors automatically lock. now this is whats causing the problem and im not there so i cant SEE whats happening but i would say the ecu (electronic control unit) is getting it mixed up with the speed sensors, its a possibility that the rpm is moving the speedometer. under the radar as so you cannot see this happening but many trucks over time do this and dodge is bad for speedo's busting. my dads 01 with power locks did the same thing. if you can get your ecu looked at and the speed sensor checked and your tires calibrated it might just fix the problem i have seen it many times and there is different things that could be causing this, and if its possible you can take the key out of the ignition as its running if you have yet to try it. do so and there is your problem, it obviously has - remote start- built in , and under the dash there will be a small lever or switch of some type, in the ON position. switch it to OFF and it might fix it as well dodge introduced a remote starting system for the newer rams. and either way its not a great big deal. unless its -40 outside and you need to let it idle 24/7 i wouldn't worry about it good luck,....max

I have a 2005 Grand Caravan. I have to keep two separate keys. I have the same problem. So, when I go to the car wash and the attendant closes the door with the engine running, I can use the second key to get back in. Good luck.
