Survival instinct?

That's almost like saying you have a fever and not trying to get better. (Alright, bad analogy but you get the idea.) =]

Do you know what's wrong? I mean, have you tried to cure him? =]

idk if it's the same thing, but mine just didn't move. they lived for maybe a year, but every time i walked past their bowls, they were just sitting in their little water lily roots doing nothing. i think they might just be low energy on a regular basis.

might have something called ick... go to walmart and buy some ick away... my fish do that sometimes and it cures them

Here are some possibilities on why your fish might appear to be dieing.
-Poor Water Conditions.
-Cold Water.
-Lack of nutrition.
-Too small of tank.
-Has an illness.

rin answered it right... it's survival! he's a fighter. do you know what's wrong with him? is he in a heated, filtered tank? if he's just in a bowl then he's probably cold. bettas are tropical fish and require steady warm temps. 75F should do it but even a few degrees flux in a day can stress him and make him more susceptible to disease. If his temp is lower he's probably lethargic.

can you describe what exactly he is doing to be "trying to die"?

>.> You basically just gave a definition of every living creature. Every creature is slowly dying every day, Including Humans. Maybe, A description of why you think hes dying?
