My betta fish is becoming increasingly aggressive, is this a problem?

Whenever anyone walks past him he becomes very alert and attacks the glass. This has become such a problem that even when he sees my finger putting the food in (he ignores the food just to attack my finger, and then he eats it) he jumps out of the water. He hasn't made a bubble nest in a very long time. I'm worried. Should I put him in an area with less traffic and people? Does he need more room? He was fine with people up till a few weeks ago. I'm worried that he's hurting himself with stress, hitting the glass, and jumping out of the water. Also, whenever he feels threatened or angry he puffs up his gills. I know that it is normal for betta fish to be aggresive, but he doesn't seem happy, and i don't know what to do.
