he is about one yr old and lives in a 5 gal tank with a heater and filter he has some tears on his tail and it also looks like a frayed rope at the ends i have tried EVERYTHING the gel food drops, a yellow powder that goes in the water, and fizzy tabs i dont know what else to do plz help me!
his water temp is 84 is it to hot? i thought it was supposed to be like 78-80 so is 4 over to hot?

Try Melafix it works wonders, repairs damaged fins, ulcers and open wounds. I think 78-80 is better, but don't think it has anything to do with fin rot. Also I found a thermometer that has the area shaded for the temp the tank should be in range of; at Buzz N Bee's pet store or WalMart I can't remember which. Hope this helps.

Man, watch out...Garrek P is telling us to visit a site with viruses ..

Then, apart from that, hav u tried the PrimaFix and MelaFix ?

do very small partial water changed daily remove about 1 cup of water replace it with fresh making sure that the water has 1/2 teaspoon of salt per gallon of water. when you do a large cleaning do a 50% water change once a week and use Paraguard it kills everything except the fish

If that doesn't work try what's explained in the link below

I hope your fish get better. We had a betta that went through this too. We tried many medications, most of them for bacterial problems which the pet store recommended. I think the last one did work and it was a fungal medicine, but I think it was too late at that point. Water temperature might be an issue, but I can't remember. I would go to a good fish store and ask them, maybe take a picture of the fish and a close-up of the fins. There is lost of information on the web. I would look up fish diseases in general, not just for bettas. I hope you find something that helps.
