MY BETA FISH DIED! HELP?

I just got 2 beta fish yesterday. I cleaned their water earlier this morning, then I cleaned it again this evening. I put the fish in warm water, then they started moving quickly. My first one died almost instantly, my second one lived for 1 min. after I put them in the new water. What happened?
 
When you swich the water in a fish's tank, you need to do it gradually. When you do switch the water, then you take about half of it out and leave half in. Then you add water, not tap, to the previous water. you also need to try to match the water temperature because the fish also could have died of shock.
