My best friend/roommate may have an eating disorder?

I have known my best friend for about 7 years and know her very well. About a year ago she decided she wanted to lose some weight and adopted a healthier lifestyle; she started working out and eating healthier foods. After a few months of this she still hadn't lost a very noticeable amount of weight. She began working out 4 and 5 times a day and added a diet pill to her regime while still trying to maintain a healthy diet. Still not seeing the results she wanted, she went to her doctor but checked out fine.
After we moved out for the summer I barely saw her between her work schedule and work-outs that she would NOT miss.
Now that we've moved back in together, in only a few days I have noticed drastic differences in her diet. She now takes 7 different types of dietary supplements, one of which costs $60+ for a small amount. In three days she has only eaten coffee, water, a few pieces of fruit, and 2 salads. She claims that she just hasn't had much of an appetite lately because she is getting over a cold.
When we've met people together she'll say how she'll like them because they're thin or cute. She went from reading Cosmo and Seventeen to reading Shape, Fitness, and Sports Illustrated the swimsuit edition. It is pretty clear to me that she is obsessed with looking thin and being perceived as attractive. I think she is on a slippery slope to a serious eating disorder- if not already there.
I want to help but every time I hint at her eating habits she gets very defensive. And I can't tell her mother because she too is concerned that her size 3 jeans are feeling tight. Please, any insight would be appreciated.

Sounds like she's gone to extremes. Eating disorders often kill, and the person is unable to help herself. If possible, I would call her doctor and tell him what all has been going on. Maybe he'd then ask her to come in for a check up.

Yes, That sounds like all the symptoms. Let me ask by chance is your friend going through depression? Or, taking any kind of over the counter certain pills? If so, she is probably just stressing out alot and needs someone to comfort her. That is all i can say. If your a true friend, you will go up 2 her and ask what is up with her. And tell her your there 4 her in case of anything risky.
Hope this helps!!! :)
