My back pain was a clot in lung

Just wanted to share that I had what I thought was a pulled muscle in my back. The pain then spread to my neck (where it actually hurt more) and it hurt to take deep breaths. After five days I couldn't sleep and for some reason decided to go to the E.R. I felt so stupid too because I figured they'd just send me home with some motrin. I had a bilateral pulmonary erabolism. Don't ignore your body.

You were very lucky that you went to the ER when you did and this just shows how much we all need to listen to our bodies. My daughter was having strange symptoms this past weekend and was also afraid to go to the ER because she thought they would say it was all in her head. They ended up admitting her for possible mini-stroke and she is still having more tests done. It has been a very scary situation but the nurses in the ER said too many people ignore symptoms and then it is too late. How are you feeling now? I hope everything will be okay for you and thanks for getting the information out.

this is very scary! You are one smart and lucky woman to be Dx in time; most of cases like this when too late - you know what happens.
Couple of month ago I lost a relative, lady is 60 years old who went to have her knee replaced. Healthy and fit. After the surgery they sent her home, she couldn't eat, threw up a lot, they took her back to the Hospital, checked her out from head to toe and sent her home again.
She died unexpected... from pulmonary erabolism. How could they miss that on her - we never know.

How do you feel now? I hope you will enjoy every minute of your life for the rest ...
Best wishes to you!:)

I experienced the same thing. In June I started having a squeezing sensation in my shoulder blade (right side) that I could feel all the way through to the front part of my shoulder above my collar bone. It would come and go, gradually increasing in intensity then easing off. I ignored this as just a pulled muscle and was taking arthritis medication to ease the pain. A couple of weeks ago I started having heart palpitations that were so intense they would wake me up out of sleep. They were frightening and would take my breath away. Started waking up in middle of night with the feeling that I had stopped breathing and felt like my natural instinct to breathe was gone and I had to give myself instructions to breathe in and out. My fiance finally insisted that we go to the ER when I started having chest pains with the palpitations. I really expected them to send me home with some medicine to control the PVCs and tell me everything was normal. They admitted me to the hospital for a whole week due to a pulmonary erabolism in the right upper lobe of my lung (in the exact spot I had been having those squeezing pains since June). I am out of the hospital now and am on Coumadin. I have to visit the doctor every week to check my levels and they suspect I will be on this for at least 6 months. My fear now is that if there are clots in my lungs, is it a possibility there could be clots elsewhere, such as my brain? I have been having extreme sudden headaches and a sharp shooting pain in one side of my head for a couple of weeks now. Anyone know if this is a side effect of the pulmonary erabolism or if there could be more clots the doctors did not bother to look for?

Was all your pain for the 5 days or had you had pain for a long time and the pain intensified and after 5 days you couldn't sleep? Where did it hurt when you took deep breaths? WHat did the ER do for you? Hope you are feeling better!

glad you are ok! good advice. people shouldnt ignore danger signals of pain, chest pain and shortness of breath! fyi there is a blood test they can do to check for PE.
