So I got a 4 week old rat yesterday, and she wouldn't come out of her house for over seven hours until I took her out to get her used to me. Last night she accepted bits of food from me, so she's finally eating, but this morning when I examined her cage, it doesn't look like she's gotten into her food dish at all. I didn't see and half eaten parcels, no food hidden in her house or anywhere else, nothing. I know she knows it's there because she's crawled into it, but she hardly smelled it, and didn't grab anything from it. Today, I've handed her a few more bits from it and she'll take them from me and go to her house to eat them, but she isn't getting them out of the bowl herself. She's finally drinking from the water bottle too, I'm just worried about her eating. Is this normal behavior in baby rats? I'm guessing she's just looking for someone to tell her it's safe to eat, but when will she start learning on her own?
