My Aero Garden light is attracting tiny flies, and they're getting in the soil and the water. Is there any way to stop this? Are they bad for the plants or for me?

An Aero Garden--lucky you!!!

Most likely, these insects are just after your plants. There are many possible kinds, but they're not going to hurt you. When harvesting the plants, wash them well before eating.

I've heard of a tip for dealing with flies. If you set a little bowl of vinegar nearby (with some apple peelings in it to attract the flies), the flies will be drawn to it and killed. Some people just use a bottle with a little vinegar & sugar in it. That's supposed to attract flies, and they stay inside the bottle and die there.
