My Adobe Photoshop is acting up and messing up the font size... can you help?

I want to overlay a layer of writing over a picture to make a calendar-like page. But when I put it in a 72point font, it is still very tiny and illegible. What is making my font size so little?

Well the font is going to scale with however big the resolution of the picture is... The bigger the picture, the smaller the font is going to be unless you go past 72. You can set the font higher than 72 by clicking in the box and inputting a higher number and then pressing enter.
