Hi everyone. So I've finally made my decision to go on accutane. I've been contemplating about this decision for so long now and I feel like it's time that I make the leap. I have moderate to severe acne on my face, back, neck, chest, scalp, and sometimes other places. I've tried many antibiotics and have been on a strict diet for the longest time now. Although I can say that diet has helped to keep my facial acne steady, it does not help with any of my other acne. Plus, the strict diet is almost impossible nowadays. For these reasons, I am looking for some help and advice on how I should begin my accutane search....

I live in the LA area near UCLA, and I was wondering if anyone out there knows any good dermatologists around this area (or in the LA area in general) who will prescribe accutane to me. I feel that my acne is severe enough, but it is possible that some of the stingy derm's may try to give me something else before giving what I want. So I want to know if any one has had past experiences with lenient derms from this area who have given them accutane with relative ease...

If so, could you PM me or simply reply to this thread with information about location, maybe a contact information, and perhaps your own individual story of your accutane experience (starting from going to the derm until wherever you are now). I really wanna make sure that I also get a reliable dermatologist who actually cares about my skin and is not just in it for the money. I know accutane is a serious decision and I want to make sure I go thru with it as smoothly and properly as I can. If you can help me, please please..respond to this post..even extra suggestions on how I should conduct this kind of search will be greatly appreciated..thank you...

I don't live in LA but let me tell you accutane is definitely worth it. At least it is becoming so for me. I'm going into my 4th month and seeing great results now. In terms of dermatologists, I would recommend finding one who will prescribe you some antibiotics for the first week or so of accutane to minimalize the IB (Initial Breakout). As for finding a good dermatologist, it might just be hit or miss. Unless someone in your area can help you, you might just have to take a shot in the dark. Women derms may be more lenient.

thank you for your input! i hope that i have the same success with accutane as you have. acne has controlled my life for too long. anyone else got any suggestions? thank you everyone! this support makes me feel a lot better.
