...accident. How can I fix it? I was driving in the snow and my ABS were working fine, until one day, when they stopped and the little light for the ABS in my Chevy Cavalier 1998 lit up. I knew how to stop without the ABS, so I kept driving. Well, yesterday, I needed to stop in an emergency and my breaks gave out on me. If I hadn't swerved I would've hit the other car dead on. Now my break pedal goes all the way down without any resistance. I tried to get rid of air in the fuel line, but that's not the problem. Also, when I press the break pedal I hear a low grinding in the break pump and/or the ABS system, I'm not sure which. If anyone has had the same problem, HELP!

its probably a brake fluid issue either theres air in the lines or not enough brake fluid try bleeding your break lines and replacing the fluid. take it too a shop if you dont know what your doing....brakes you dont want to FAHK up

the fuel line has nothing to do with the brakes...

there are a few problems you could be having. There is a sensor for the ABS, that could have gotten pulled off in the snow(its usually connected to the rear wheels). That would cause the light but not the failure. The failure means that ether you have a bad master cylinder or one of your brake cylinders or calipers is leaking. Take off all your tires and look for brake fluid if there is a leak you will see fluid, look in your reservoir and see if the fluid is any color but clear or light honey colored, if it is brown its probably your master cylinder.

if your brake pedal goes to the floor then you might have air in the line or your master cylinder going out, have a shop hook up scan tool to your abs and check it too
