My 99 Pontiac Grand Am GT security light comes on and will not start?

What is happening is the security code from the ignition switch is not what the pcm expected, so it puts the car into security lock-out. Several things can cause this, but replacing the ignition switch and relearning the security code is the probable fix. It's a headache, so I would take it to a quality repair shop or dealer.

I just bought a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT from a older guy who took good care of it, but he told me once every other month the security light will come on while he is starting it and then it will only crank over but not start and then he will have to let it sit for any where from 10-30 mins before trying again and then it will start right up, well now I am having the problem once every other day where I got to start it and it will sound like it wants to but only cranks over, and the security light will flash for 10-30 mins, and then when I try it again after waiting 10-30 mins, it will start right up and the light will be off, What in the world is causing this problem and how do I get it fixed???? I already know unplugging the battery does not work and there is no reset switch for it, Does any one know how to fix this for good? Thanks
