My '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee driver's side door is coming apart. Repair suggestions?

My good 'ole Jeep is getting up there in years so little things are starting to go wrong. The other night, I went to open my driver's side door and the outside part of the door (the metal part with the handle) partially separated from the inside molded plastic casing (where the window controls, etc. are). It was below zero that night so I'm not sure if the plastic cracked. I've been using the passenger side door to get in and out which is a hassle but hopefully someone out there can give me advice about how to fix this myself (or have my dad fix it lol).

A year or two ago I had the window lifter replaced. I don't know if this would cause any problems seeing as it was pretty far in the past. Other than that, no other work has been done on the door.

Any and all advice is welcome! I'm in grad school so any ideas for quick/inexpensive fixes would be great.
Also, I had a brain fart yesterday and tried to open the door from the outside. Some thin pieces of broken black plastic fell out.
