starting again? Many of you would ask why the heck wouldn't I drive a bike this nice in such a long time. Well its simple really. About 9 years ago I barely avoided death with this bike. Ever since I had a fear of bikes which is why I left this parked on a corner of my garage for so long. However now I am thinking of selling this bike and would like to start it first. I know as a start I should to change the battery. Apart from that this is the last carbureted bike made which means it might be more tricky to start than a fuel injected one. I dont know if I should take the carburettor apart and clean it first. Any suggestions as to what to clean or replace before I get this going?

i would empty the carbs and take them off to see if there is any dyrot in any of the rubber peices inside, if there isnt, just clean them well, new plugs, and possibly coils, change the oil and gasoline, and lube up your cables and it should hop back on the road, and of course the usual walk around chain lube, tire pressures, lights ect ect

you can have it on the road for under $100 bucks generally if you do it yourself, unless you have to replace the tires (dryrot)

9 years sitting .yes take the carbs off and clean them first.grease everything that can be greased.check the throttle cable to make sure its not rusted.check the breaks to make sure there not froze or have cracks in the lines.tires gota have drie rot sitting that long oil change.make sure thegas tank doesn't have rust in it.and of coursee a new battery.new sparkpugs. i think i remembered everything but i could of forgot something.lube the chain.

Get rid of any gas in it,clean the carb. change the oil,new plug, check the wires and see if any are dried out if so change them, make sure the acid from the battery did not corrode up in the cable if so change it, be for you put a new plug in squart a little WD40 in it and take your foot and turn the motor over slowly.

First thing I would do is drain the oil & the gas tank the car bs , they will be varnished up. They will need to be taken apart & sink ed after you clean them. grease it check your tires they will probably need to be replaced. The battery needs to be replaced. Then you could try to start it. If you don't have the knowledge to do this I would take it to T o a bike shop. You are going to spend some major bucks. get a estimatment before you spend all the money. you could spend more then it is worth. Some guy could buy it like it stands & he could fix it himself
