My 96' Kawasaki Eliminator 600 makes a knocking sound in neutral. What

might be causing this? The noise is only heard when the bike is in neutral with the clutch lever out (clutch engaged.) If you pull in the clutch, disengaging it, the knocking stops. It does not make the sound when in gear, either.

when the drive train is spinning freely it may be smacking into the drive gears and if that is the case that is pretty bad if you don't know internal motor work like tearing the bikes motor completely apart then you will have to take it to the shop before you destroy the transmition
