My '84 Ford Escort with a diesel engine has had some trouble starting recently. It will start up, but as soon as the engine is revved, it dies. It's not an electrical problem, because all the peripherals work fine, just not the engine. It takes continually holding the key in start and pumping the gas before the car will start and run. It only does this with a cold start. I think that it may be a dirty fuel filter, but I wanted some outside advice before I spend $40 on a new one. Thanks!
