We have a 55 gallon tank. we did have 8 fish yesterday but today we only have 6! We have 2 oscars(8"), a blue gorami and a gold gorami(5"), a goldfish(5") and a baby jack dempsey(2"). I vacuumed the tank yesterday around 3:00am and took everything out and then put it back treated the water and watched my fish nothing unusual. then this evening i looked and could not find my 8" jack dempsey fish or my 3" pleco. these fish have been living together for 6 months and we have never had any problems with any of them. I looked in the filter, all over the floor, and in the tank. The oscars eat tiny goldfish and minnows but when we put a 3" goldfish in there they did kill it but the head was gone and the body remained for days after and they fed off of it. this was a 8" jack and there are no remains of it ever being in the tank, its like he never existed. is it possible he got eaten? I am so confused, he was my fave.

Ya I agree they wouldn't eat a whole fish like that and leave nothing at all. He must have jumped out or hes hiding or trapped under some of the decor and you haven't found him. Same thing with the Pleco. If you already checked under everything you possibly could in the tank and even under the first few inch's of gravel then you need to check on the floor again. Sometimes fish can jump on the floor and under things like tables that are across the room. Just check everything again, they Obviously didn't just disappear. Unless you have a cat, then maybe they did lol.

yes oscar fish would bully and kill anything smaller then them
but ur jack and oscar are both 8inches?
do u keep ur tank outside of ur house something must have happen to it cause i dont think oscar fish can eat a 8 inch fish in acouple of hours

Excuse me? A goldfish? I hope it is not in the tank with those other fish. If it is, I don't know why it would be and you should get it out immediately1 Goldfish are COLD WATER, all the rest of the fish are TROPICAL fish are they require heated water. Gold fish can not and must not live in any water but cold water. They also aren't compatible with the other fish because you have very aggressive fish, and gold fish are anything but. As the other fish get bigger, they will attack and kill the gold fish. They also live in different ph levels, gold fish eat different food, and they have different water maintenance. They live in different hardness of water as well. You need to remove the gold fish immediately, even the silliest person knows they are cold water fish and can not and should not be housed with ANY sort of tropical fish.
But yes, the jd was probably eaten, and soon the gold fish will too if it doesn't die before hand because it is housed in a completely wrong environment.
