My 5300 is being dumb

So I bought a 5300 for myself as a Christmas present. It has much more slide wobble than the Samsung t629 that I had (open and closed), but I eventually got used to it. What really pisses me off is that the phone will randomly switch from "sim memory" to "sim and phone memory" for my contact memory usage. Does anyone have a clue as to why it's doing this? Oh, and I feel kind of dumb for asking, but how the heck do I set new contacts to automatically save to the sim instead of phone memory?

I had this problem once with my 6280 and it turns out to be the sim card's fault. Try to replace it
