my 5230 is 100% de-branded

I have Nokia Messaging installed on my updated T-Mobile branded Nuron. It works fine except it does not have any indicators of new email like my E61 had. Nothing on the home screen, no flashing lights. Just the sound effect when it first comes in.
I also had a hard time getting it installed. It won't work if you download it, you need to be sent a provisioning SMS. I had to set up a new Nokia Messaging account using a new Gmail address to get it to work. My other addresses wouldn't work, and my E61's Nokia Messaging account would not sent out a new provisioning SMS.

thanks. So do you find that there are any new actual feature / functionality differences or options using the new firmware?
Nokia SIP client application now present or available?
Able to install Skype from OVI store which otherwise wasn't AFAICT available?

Someone in the past complained about worsened GPS acquisition/lock times with previous versions of alternative firmware. I'm not sure if that was simply them not having set the AGPS location server parameters correctly or if that applied even to standalone GPS or what. But does the GPS acquire and lock well / quickly with this new version either via AGPS or standalone?

Any sign of major bug fixes?

What's the version #? If one cannot revert versions to older numbered releases, is there any reasonable firmware with higher version numbers than this new one that would give an upgrade option to migrate away from this version if one for some reason found a problem with it?

Scottish Skyedance,

Now that you have had time to really play with the phone after debranding, do you think you really gained anything from it? You mentioned faster maps, but anything else?

The reason I ask is I bought a debranded one from Dell (got a great deal with a now expired discount code) and just got it tonight. I played with it for all of 20 minutes or so then my daughter ran off with it. Anyway, so far it looks great. So now I am considering another for my wife and daughter. The question is would the $69 ones from T-Mobile work as well as mine or will they be disappointed with theirs compared to what mine may be able to do?

The most benefit to de-brand is no more carrier's junk (total freedom, YAY!).
Regular nokia shaking hand animation instead of Stuck Together
Can force 2G only or 3G only
3.5G under the signal bar where is available
Freedom to install Java apps
Faster GPS lock-in time
No more MyFaves sync text sending upon startup

Yours from Dell may possible have ATT-only 3G, while T-Mobile hardware has extremely powerful 850 3G for ATT.

All i get is an error message when I scan for the phone? Fresh install of XP + Ovi suite

Did you change the product code, or just flashed it in Phoenix?

Seems like there are bugs relating to message notification on this handset with certain firmwares. A lot of complaints at the t-mobile.com forums suggest that the notifications will be working fine initially, and then will stop working and not do so again until you take some kind of action such as a hard reset or clearing out most / all messages from one's stored messages or such like.

Unbranded is 12.8.95
T-mobile(now available via navifirm for prod codes- 0592823, 0597507, and 0597970) is 12.2.82

Downloaded the T-mo branded firmware(both 11.2.80 and 12.2.82) in case I want to go back to branded for the t-mo apps.. but not sure if I want to be stuck at 12.2.82 since it cant be flashed from that version.. Wish there was a way to flash to 11.2.8, extract the apps I want, then go back to unbranded and install em...
