T Two Smoking Guns New member Sep 15, 2009 #2 Timing chains usually last the lifetime of the motor, but if you have 150,000 miles it could be loose. You are much more likely to be hearing pre-ignition or engine knock caused by carbon or maybe your timings advanced too far. BTDT
