My 4.6L Ford engine rattles while under hard acceleration or accelerating...

...with low rpms. Is this timing chain? Accelerating with low rpms would be when the car starts to go up a hill but doesn't want to downshift just yet. I've heard many cars do this, particularly v8s.
 
Timing chains usually last the lifetime of the motor, but if you have 150,000 miles it could be loose.

You are much more likely to be hearing pre-ignition or engine knock caused by carbon or maybe your timings advanced too far.
