...melt a rock in the classroom? I am thinking that we don't have anything in the classroom that can heat a rock to a high enough temperature to melt it. They suggested the microwave but I'm pretty sure that would NOT be safe. We discussed using a soft rock like talc/kaolin or sandstone and breaking it up a little first. Has anyone tried anything like this before? I want to encourage my students to ask questions and research, but I want to make sure it is safe before we try something like this.
