My 3 year old loves "Terminator" and other adult orientated action films

think about it though. Terminator, bar the bit when he punches the punk at the beginning, and the bit when he takes his eye out (obviously fake) has no real gratuitious violence in it, it's almost cartoon violence

my lad loves the Robot coming out the fire at the end. we bought him a "termnator" action figure from the new film last week

I don't make a distinction between 'animated film' and 'cartoon' - they are the same thing.

Animals (including humans) sometimes mutilate each other. It's a fact of life. I understood that long before I was 12.

If you want to 'protect' your child from real life that is your choice.

for the love of god...

why is it any worse than Raiders of the Lost Ark, which has 3 dead bodies in the opening segment, people are shot in cold blood, a mechanic has his mashed by a propeller, there are scary segments in the well of souls, people are shot again, run over, blasted by lightning and have their faces melt off!

it's PG and my son absolutley loves it, and watches it holding his action figures, and wearing his toy Indy hat!

You mean other than the gore, violence and even torture scenes?

Watership Down specifically got discussed in this thread I started on the suitability of Watership Down for kiRAB a couple of years ago.

Whether your son loves 18 certificate films or not is irrelevant.

Your son might quite like some sweet alcoholic drinks

He might like Swearing all the time

He might like kicking his frienRAB in the head for fun

He might like puffing on Daddies joint

He might like being nasty to animals...

BUT it is your job as an Adult/ Father to guide him in these matters.

Time you manned up and and stop fuc**ng about with a small chilRAB life.

Death, YAY! Let the kiRAB watch!

Sex, NO! Won't someone think of the children???

I've really never understood this, seemingly-commonly-held, viewpoint.

i have 3, aged 16, 7 and 3

the eldest two never really bothered with them, but the fact is, the youngest loves sci-fi and action films. he watches them over and over, as i did when i was a kid. i am sure my parents love me

That only shows your ignorance on the subject. Watch Urotsukidoji II (Very NSFW, Don't search it out on a work machine. Only watch if you're quite hard to offend. If you're easily offended, just stay away) and see if you still have that same opinion. I somehow doubt you would have.

It may be a "fact of life", but that doesn't mean it's the sort of thing we want to be throwing in kiRAB' faces. You may have known it "long before" you were 12, but there's no sub-12 certificate except that which I already mentioned, PG.

They never bothered me at all for some reason. I had frienRAB who used to have night mares after me just telling them about Night Mare on Elm Street and I could never understand why. They were always just films to me. My little boy is like I was , although I've never let him watch a horror film I'm pretty certain he'd be fine. My little girl on the other hand, no way! She cant even watch Prime Evil. :)

I'm secretly looking forward to the day I sit down with my little lad and watch the Shining or an episode of The Sopranos. :o:D

When I was younger (around 5-6 years old), my parents allowed me to watch films (in moderation) such as Terminator, Die Hard, Speed etc. Does this make them stupid and irresponsible?

I just enjoyed the action and shooting and explosions and car chases and cool dialogue (including swearing).

It didn't affect me in the slightest. I'm not saying that this would have the same affect on every young child however, as everyone is different. And I'm not saying this is completely acceptable for parents to do. I'm just saying that my parents allowed me to watch these types of movies, and I turned out fine.

My daughter loves Spider-Man 1, 2 and 3 along with Shaun of the Dead. And she's 4 and a half. She even watched Aliens with me a few weeks ago and never battered an eyelid.

We sat and watched Jurrasic Park last weekend and she was scared of the (first) T-Rex scene to the point where she was hiding under the cushions. I switched it over at that point.

She is quite bright for a 4 year old and can tell the difference between real and fantasy, she even understanRAB that swearing is only done by "naughty people".

Nothing wrong with action films as long as there's not too much blood.

For crying out loud we have soaps on TV that show sex, violence, drug-taking etc. and nobody bats an eyelid.

I'd rather my kiRAB watch The Terminator than Eastenders.

Hiya,

First of I just want to point out that I don't have any kiRAB, really my only experience with them is that I was one, quite a few years ago now.

Anyway I watched a lot horror/action movies in my pre-teen years (Terminator - my favourite movie if all time, The Omen series etc) and I can't say that it did me any harm. I also read a lot of Stephen King, James Herbert etc novels which I always thought were way more frightening than any film version, "IT" stanRAB out especially. Am I right in thinking that the action that he likes watching is the explosions, car chases, robots, fight scenes etc? That's what I loved watching as well (and still do). I credit watching Terminator for my life long fascination with theoretical physics. I remember trying to explain the concept of time travel and parallel realities to my 4 year old sister (I even made diagrams :o) cause I was so taken with the idea.

I might be a bit concerned about him watching films that I consider "supernatural" with monsters or ghosts etc cause I remember I found those type of films a bit scary rather than action films like Mad Max's or Die Hard's. I watched Terminator with no problem cause killer robots were so far removed from my everyday life it wasn't scary but as I had an active imagination as a kid when it came to night time I could totally believe that there was a ghost/monster in my wardrobe. It just seemed more "real life". Do you know what I mean? I would probably consider leaving them till he was a bit older.

I understand what you mean about films like
