My 2yr old Lab is constantly whining over this toy squirrel I bought her. Why?

My 2yr old Lab is constantly whining over this toy squirrel I bought her. She carriers it around in her mouth whining for hours. If you sneak it away from her she still whines in and outside of the house looking for it. She grooms it like it’s her baby (which is what we call the squirrel now). I don’t know what I should do? Should I get rid of it for good? Or is there another way for her to get over this?
I also want to add that it's a squeak toy so everytime it squeaks by accident she whines even more. She is so gentle with it when she picks it up...almost like she doesn't want to hurt it.
 
if it is a new toy she just likes it like a kid with a new toy. i'm sure she will get over the whining when the newness wears off.
 
mostly because the pup is so happy, that is why it whines, like if you take it away they will change their whine sound haha it is confusing, but if you continue to get irritated by the whimpers, ask your vet if there is something you can do..like replace the toy squirrel with another security blanket that will cause it not to whine.

You might need to contact an animal behaviourist. Sometimes when you get rid of a toy a dog is fine, but sometimes they actually go into depression!!! A behaviourist will assess your dog and the situation. And try to find out why she is behaving this way.
 
My friend had a similar problem, she gave her Westie a small white teddy as a toy but the dog became so fixated that she wouldn't let anybody have this teddy, she took it everywhere, cleaned it and slept with it, my friend eventually had to take it away from her as it was becoming too much of a problem, I don't what you can do but I'm sure someone will be able to help if you don't want to take it away from her.
 
That is her substitution for a puppy. No, but you should take your dog to the vet. It is playing havoc with her hormones. Has she been spayed. If not, you may want to investigate that if you are not going to breed her. It is not good for her to go through this. I had a dog that did that with certain rubber toys. We had to have her spayed.
