We bought the truck about 4 months ago for $4000. It is a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500. Gas powered. The KBB value is about $8000 even with 250,000 miles on it. The transmission was replaced before we bought it. Now the check engine light has come on and we took it in to get the diagnostic test. Our mechanic said that a certain part of the engine is bad and we could spend about 400 to fix it temporarily or get a new engine for $2000-3000 depending on the manufacturers prices. I don't know if it is worth it to spend this much on a truck with that many miles. I have heard that getting a new engine is like getting a new truck in some ways. I don't know if this is true. Any feedback would be helpful. Also the truck was used to haul a dump trailer and I don't know if this could be the cause. If so, I want to make sure we don't haul with it after replacing the engine.
