My 2003 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 5.7l hemi revs itself when in park neutral or drive(foot on brake) you can hear it on the exhaust and everything. itll jump from 700 to like 1500 back and forth up and down for about 5 minutes......what could be making it do this
Check Engine light comes on every now and then but then goes away after 5+ minutes whys it doing that to?

air mass sensors! they tell the ecu how air is coming into the engine so the ecu can give right amount of fuel. by it going up and the the car trying to keep alive and not stall. try taking the air mass sensors off and that should sort out your problem.

Sounds like an idle control motor problem. Is the check engine light on? If so, start by scanning for codes and diagnosing from there. You can also try and listen for a vacuum leak under the hood. Do any repairs recently? Make sure all the sensors are plugged it and parts are on properly

i assume the check engine light is on so you'll have to take it somewhere or get a scanner & repair manual
