My 2002 jeep cherokee is having i think transmission troubles . ?

For a week or so its been sounding bad after it switches the first gear it wont switch a second time it just sounds like its revving up or so does this mean the only thing to do is get it fixed or a new one or is there a way to maintenance this to fix it even for a limited time i know transmissions are alott of money so idk .
 
well you can't do any maintenance on it now. It sounds like your transmissions done, you either have to get it rebuilt or replace it with a new one. But yea im sorry to say thats probably the only way to fix it at this point. I remember my parents had that same year and jeep model, it had nothing but problems so we just traded it in for another suv.
