My 2000 Toyota Corolla, brought from a dealer, failed an emissions test.

Should they fix it at no charge? Last month I bought a used 2000 Toyota Corolla from a dealer, this month I took it in for a mandatory emissions test (Connecticut) and it failed due to an "P0420: Catalyst Systems Efficiency Below Threshold back 1" error. I've read that the extended federal emissions warranty is 8 years/80,000 miles, but is there anything in Connecticut that would extend it further?
If I'm not covered, what should I expect to pay? I heard it's steep, but my state offers a waiver if the the price of parts and labor exceed $660.

Call local auto mechanics in your area, and ask for estimates of repair. Sorry, but unless you purchased an extended auto repair insurance policy from dealer - you're s.o.l. (80,000 miles if bEFORE 8years)

Did you buy the car "as-is"? If so, there is not much you can do legally.
In Missouri where I am, a car bought from a dealer must pass safety and emissions testing prior to the customer taking delivery. If not, the dealer is responsible for repairs. Check your local laws concerning this.
