...her for autism? and put her in speech therapy. That's stupid because she shows no signs of autism and she can talk. I've heard her say things perfect, like she's been talking for years when she doesn't think anyone is listening. Then if you ask her to say it again she can't or won't. I don't know how to get her to want to talk because that's they only way she will is if she wants to . I haven't been forcing it on her because Ive always heard that just slows them down so I strongly encourage her to talk but don't force. What else can I do to get her to talk? My 4 yr old son is the same way with counting He can count to ten if he doesn't think I can hear but if I ask him to do it he "forgets"

try just talking to her about anything and everything even down to the food she's eating. maybe if you keep talking to her she'll break out of her shell and record her talking when you hear her so the docs don't put her through that therapy crap if she don't need it. i don't have kids but that's the best i can think of. hope this helps

This is getting totally out of hand. Every kid with a speech delay has autism and every kid that's overly active has ADHD.

You know your child best since you spend the most time with them. You know them better than teachers who have 20+ other students to care for, better than their doctors who will see them for 5-10 minutes per visit.

So go with your gut feeling. Your daughter can talk but is shy ... I would say not talking to strangers is a GOOD thing. You son can count to 10 but is smart enough to be shy about it. PERFECT!

Keep up the good work.

They are just shy. There is nothing wrong with not wanting to talk. If you really want to encourage them to talk, give them a book and tell them to "read" it. Often times when a child is given a book they will start "reading" it out loud to themselves. They will eventually grow out of not wanting to speak in front of people. It's a phase many toddlers go through.
As for the Autism thing-- I'd get her tested just in case. Even though you strongly believe she doesn't (which is PROBABLY the case) it won't hurt to just double check. Not being comfortable in public is a sign of Autism, and I say better safe then sorry! :)

Good luck!

read "sand dollar summer" it has to do with this.
And, let them be ready, tell everyone to say something to them and if they dont respond then give ur children a snoody mean look then nobody will talk to them then they'll break XD

maybe your imagining her talking and your really crazy... that would make for a good movie
