...in 8 seconds...why is that? I have a 1999 Mercury Cougar 2.5L V6 170HP. The problem is my car goes 0-60 in 12 seconds when it should be 8 seconds for automatic. The fuel I suppose to use is 87 (currently using), but will the 89 help? What is the problem and what should I do because I want to fix this problem before I add an Injen intake and 2.5” single exit exhaust. The car’s got about 150,000 miles on it but runs good. And the check engine light was on, but it went away by itself just resently. (The thermostat, water pump belt, tune up, and 30/60.90K maintenance has been serviced but didn't help much. I even added the restore horsepower liquid that you add to the engine oil from Autozone..but it didn't help either).

the one thing they dont tell you is what they did to the car to make those 8 seconds. and after 150k of engine deposits, build up, and such the motor cant perform like it used to. One thing you can do is get a properly done top end cleaning should help alot if it is done right. Top end cleaning is the one true way to restore power and performance to an older engine. not intakes exhaust and all that crap.
