my 1998 Mazda Protege (automatic) is stuck in park?

I just got my car tuned up in May - right before I had foot surgery. My car has been sitting now for 6 weeks without being driven at all. We just tried to drive it yesterday but the gear shift is stuck in park. We tried everything - pushing in the brake, turning the steering wheel, rocking the car back and forth. The engine starts beautifully (sounds great) but the gear just feels totally jammed. What could be the problem???

Also - will we be able to have it towed if it is stuck in park? Doesn't a car have to be in neutral for the tow truck to pull it?
 
There should be a small plug near the shifter take it out and isert something small in the hole to and push while trying to shift,a car can be towed from front or back what gear its in doesnt matter
