My 1995 toyota camry is having engine trouble, Please help me out!!?

I'm a student, but I'm very Mechanical so be specific please. I drove my 1995 toyota camry le 4 cylinder on a crappy road and had to back up. As I backed up the bottom of my car hit a pothole. I stopped I then heard a pressurized hissing sound. It wasn't the tires so I was nervous. I got it on the main road the engine felt held back but i accelerated and it went back to normal. Today it started fine but then stalled like 7 times and wouldn't turn over after that. It has a hard time going over 3000 rpms and most of the time it won't hit 60 with the pedal to the floor. The check engine light will come on sometimes and when it does it accelerates normal for a little while. the engine also lurches when I try to accelerate too. Another thing is I had it almost to E but I filled up and it still has this issue, could this have contributed to it? Under the car I saw smoke near the engine compartment and also under the hood when I got home today. I've checked the oil and the gas and other fluids and they're fine. also it smells burnt sometimes. Please Help, This Is my only car and I don't have any option but to fix it.
