my 1994 buick century has no pull when i put it into gear?

when i put my car into drive or reverse either one it doesnt seem to want to pull at all. when i push on the gas, it revs up like it wants to go and then after about 2-3 seconds it finally takes off. i havent noticed any slipping in the transmission and it does not jerk when i put it into gear either. what does this sound like to you? any ideas will help
