the dying and starting again is a sign that your fuel pump is going out. the overheating is a sign that your thermostat is shot. if the engine got too hot, it could have seized, and is shot.
 
...would do nothing but blow cold air? the day before it died nothing but cold air out of the heater, it would also over heat really bad in a short distance. Then before that started happening you would be driving down the road and it would all of the sudden just die, it would however restart after that.
