I have a 1981 Kawasaki 250 CSR, and it will not start. It's been sitting for a few years from what I gathered from the people I bought it from. It turns over, all the lights work, but it just won't fire over. I hooked up a test light to the spark plug wire, and nothing lights up. Although, the wires going into the coil light up. I threw another coil onto it, and still the same happens, and no fire. It needs a new battery, and I don't know if the coils are that voltage-sensative to need a new battery, but for now I have it turning over with just the charger hooked up to an old battery. The gas line has a filter on it, so I wouldn't think that the carb could be the problem. I smell gas when I turn it over, so I know it's getting gas. I just can't get it to fire over.

If anyone has any expertise on this I would greatly appreciate it.

Go buy a new battery and put it in ,take the carbs.off and clean the idle jets as they plug up when sitting with varnish unless their was no gas in the float bowls while sitting.I think you will need to check the points for proper function.Point gap should be between .012 and .014 thousandths.I used to work for Shafter Yamaha in 1970,Calif.
