Hi I have a wonderful 13 week old staffordshire bull terrier puppy. He is fully house trained and has learned many commands already. He has just started getting out for walks 2 days ago so has been enjoying the exercise. I have rules within my house that he normally follows- such as he is not allowed on the sofa but today out of the blue he started jumping onto my sofa. I took him back down about 5 times and told him off- I do not hit my dog all my training has been based upon positive reinforcement. I am not daft and know that they are powerful dogs so know that it is of the up most importance that I train him properly but his behaviour today took me completely by surprise and I would desperately like some experienced dog owners advice PLEASE!
After taking him down from the sofa the 5th time he then immediately jumped back up and i went to take him down again and he began barking and snapping at my hand so I walked away put his favourite toy in his cage and when he went in I locked his cage. Hes now sleeping. This just happened 5 minutes ago but I want to know what I should have done in this situation as I do not want him thinking he can assert his dominance in this way! I am not considering any physical violence such as hitting him so if anybody has any non-violent advice for me I would REALLY appreciate your help! Thanks in advance x
