MUST SEE: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

I still wanna big up Ralph Fiennes. I was a bit dubious when he was chosen for the role. I didnt think he'd be able to pull it off. He'd play a bad guy before in Red Dragon but that was an 18 and this IS Lord Voldemort we're talking about here. :D But he totally blew that notion away within seconRAB of appearing on screen. This may have been due to make up but I think make up only does so much, and if you've not got acting skills to play someone as evil a character as Voldemort then no amount of makeup/special effects is going to convince you.

In an interview Fiennes said he wanted to portray Voldemort as innately evil and I think he does. Especially with some of his leers :D
 
I was just thinking that if this film was rated as a 12A then what will The Half Blood Prince be rated as its definitely a lot more scary than Goblet Of Fire!
 
Because he didn't do a good job of the first two, my least favourite of all the films. What he tried to do with the first two was fit too much into the films and what came out was a bit of a mess. I'm not saying they weren't good, but The Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire are definitely the best films of the series, as they touch on the characters emotion a lot more. I don't think Ron swearing was a big deal, in the Harry Potter books, JK points out that a certain character swore if something happens, and Mike Newell put this on screen very well. It's not the worst word ever, a normal 14 year old would say much worse and it was done very realistically. The use of bloody hell may have gone into overload though.
 
I thought the film was excellent, though I do agree that some scenes seemed rather rushed, especially the bit before Harry flew against the Hungarian Horntail. But, that said, they managed to get across the main story thread which is all that was needed. I liked the changes they made with regarRAB to Barty Crouch (both senior and junior), but there were some things that irritated me:

Wormtail saying Voldemort??!!! No Death Eater calls him that.
No Crouch calling Percy 'Weatherby'

But they are minor things, and like katz3883 I'm so glad they kept in the bit with the ferret.
 
considering the content of the book, and the time they had for the film, i think it was brilliant. The director decided to change the idea from 2 films released a few months apart to the one, which maybe wasnt the best idea, but still it was brilliant, i think emma watson and daniel radcliff where great and the one who plays ron was ok, dont really like his character, where was snape in this film?! also mad eye was great, was very funny, all in all i will be going back to watch this film!
 
i read the book and when he died i felt sorry for his parents, his girlfriend and Harry, mainly because he felt he was to blame for the Ced's death.


as for the film, if i don't get to see Goblet of Fire at the Cinema i'll get it on DVD.
 
I liked it, but felt it was the weakest of all the movies, just didn't feel as fluent as the rest and felt choppy, Voldemort was abit of a let down to, I was expecting a nemesis of Vader like proportions after the hype from the other movies and it just felt abit played down, not being a avid potter follower tho he may get better in the movies to come, hopefully. :)

I'd like to recommend the song "Magic Works" from the soundtrack from Goblet of Fire, one of the three Jarvis Cocker composed songs.

It is featured at the part where Ron and Hermione argue at the ball in the movie. Great song and also very Christmassy!
 
Now THAT is a lot of money, i thought the ticket sales were declining with each film but it says in that article it's the best of all four. Well done to it it deserves to do the best of all four.

Has anyone checked out the forums on the imdb for this film? Most of the posters are such a bunch of bitching moaning losers i much prefer these, calmer, more polite forums...
 
Yeah, that would have been good! It would have also given Hermione something else to do, other than sit around and talk posh - it would have brought her down off the pedestal I thought she was placed on in the film.

Thought Viktor Krum was excellent! I was a bit worried he'd be too good looking, but he was so good at being surly.

The Death Eater masks were ace too - I'd never really thought about what their masks were like, but they were brilliant. They did look a bit like the KKK though.
 
The only thing that really bugged me was Dumbledore being so fiery and angry, in the books he's always calm and collected and almost never loses his temper.

Daniel Radcliffe is much much better this time around, as he was in POA - he's just how I imagined Harry would be.

Everyone raves about Emma Watson, while she's ok I think she's an over-actress.
 
hey. i finally got the see Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. what a brilliant film. Harry looked so traumatised when he got back with Cedric's body. i got all teary eyed when Amos Diggery howled and cried over his son.

brilliant movie.

Saw this last night and when I left the cinema only two worRAB sprang to mind:

Utterly brilliant.

I'm a huge fan of these books, GOF is certainly one of the best and they did it amazingly well. I have no expectation of every little plot device and nuance being in the film -books and films are two completely different mediums and if you want the full HP experience you need to read the books. But the film got the feeling and atmosphere right. GOF is where things start to go wrong for Harry. He's no longer a child, people start to turn against him, he's scared....I could really sense that from the way the film was portrayed.

Being a dutiful daughter I took my parents to see this and neither have read the books. They had no problems understanding it nor enjoying it. The only point that wasn't quite clear was the reason why Neville got so upset. But in a film of that magitude that was a great achievement.

Very, very well done to all involved.
 
It's OK - I don't think anybody would be looking at this thread if they hadn't seen the film or didn't know what happens.
