MUST SEE: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire

I don't mind admitting I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and I'm a 41 year old married bloke.

I absolutely LOVED this film - by far the best of the four so far.

Best bits:

1. The stadium scenes at the Quidditch World Cup.

2. The underwater scenes (Don't envy Daniel filming those - he was underwater for a total of 41 hours).

3. The maze - obviously!

4. The way the awkwardness of the young teen males was shown (Ron: 'Why do girls go around in packs - how the bloody hell are you supposed to speak to them!')

5. The feel of Hogwarts - the first of the films to catch that boarding school atmosphere - loved it when mad eye threw the chalk at the pupil - my teacher used to do that - eyes in the back of his head.

Minor details:

Felt a bit rushed, but, then again, there was no padding in the film, so nothing could have been removed. maybe it should have been longer ( by 1/2 an hour?), to give a little more 'feel' to some of the scenes.

Acting: I don't get this criticism of Daniel Radcliffe - he has matured well, so to have Watson & Grint, but thought the acting of Professor Dumbledore & Barty Crouch (Sorry, can't be bothered to look up the actors names) were a bit wobbly, especially their voices -at times Dumbledore sounded drunk! Mad Eye Moody & Crouch Jnr were wonderful! And as for Frances de la Tour (the Giantess), FAB!

Can't wait for OOTP - only 20 months to go! Maybe Book 7 will be out before then..........

I really want to see this film but no one will take me  i dont want to go alone because i dont like to go alone, also the reason why no one will go with me is because they havnt seen 1 , 2 & 3 yet what a shame.

I'm so glad they kept in the ferrett bit. I thought it was fantastic, I was almost in tears when Harry brought Cedric back. The Death-eaters at the world cup were really scary- I didn't get that sense of fear from the book.

oh I just have to say it again, it really was just so good, it was so good that i've only just woken up as i didn't get to sleep till 4.30 am because i was so wired after seeing it!!(and my showing fininshed at midnight!).

I'm just sad that they probably wont be able to top it with films 5,6 and 7. But we'll have to wait and see....

I have just returned from seeing Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

I have never been so disappointed over a movie of a book. I am a huge HP fan and as this was my favourite of the series I eagerly awaited the film.

Why did Chris Columbus not direct it??? I think Mike Newell made a mess of it. It was rushed, had huge bits chopped and it created an atmosphere yes...but just not in a way which carried on from the previous films.

As in Four Weddings and a Funeral, where there was a lot of swearing in the beginning as he thinks this gets attention, he does this with Ron in the film. Obviously swearing to a lesser degree...but it just wears thin and I am disappopinted in him telling Harry to p**s off! It was very Mike Newell but not very Harry Potter.

Why they mentioned the Quidditch World Cup I don't know. It was skipped over with a few great crowd scenes and nothing more. To me, the beginning of the book, withe the World Cup...house elves...Dark Mark etc...set the tone for the whole story..this was rushed.

The three kiRAB, Harry, Ron and Hermione are brilliant and carried the film through..but there characters weren't allowed to come through. The Harry/Cho thing was half done and the Ron/Hermione change in interest didn't come over. All the characters were underdone and none of them got much of a part, not an important part in the chain of events as in the book.

You didn't get the important parts of the film...the atmosphere of Hogwarts...importance of Sirius Black who was so underused here, he meant nothing in this interpretation and such a lot in the book.

Sure, it is as moody as Mad Eye....but if you haven't read the book you just get a disjointed mess. I have read the book, my husband and son haven't. So didn't understand why Neville was so upset at the beginning, and the Barty Crouch parts at all.

It was a film of special effects which were spectacular but without the characters making their mark they were not as effective as they could have been.

Mike Newell just didn't do a job on this and I hope he doesn't do the next one. If he does I will seriously consider sticking just to the books.

By the way...I am 49 and my son 23, so we aren't young parents taking a child, and we have all seen all the Harry Potter films, but we were all so disappointed. It was three hours of a good movie but not a great one and a disappointment as a Harry Potter movie.

So, I expected a great night and got a sore bum!!

I have to say, I found it quite funny, although sad, that there are so many big stars in it, and most had 3 lines tops! There just seem to be so many characters that its impossible to keep track or learn about them via the films alone. Even Ron didnt seem to be in it all that much. He spent most of the film scowling at Harry from a distance

Hmmm think this should have been spoilered... I know some people only watch the films and dont read the books cos they have no interest in them. I know this cos I was one of these people until a very bored July weekend this year and I started reading the books.

Oh god this is so silly...Say the last film comes out in 2011, they'll be 21, 22 and 23 playing eighteen year olRAB. Hardly a huge age gap is it? Look at the cast list for The OC and they've got a couple of 27 year olRAB playing 17, it's been going on for years (see Buffy also and any teen movie that comes out, most of the time at least half the cast is in their early to mid twenties). I really dont think it's a problem and I think they should stick with the same actors, it'd be a shame to change them now. I think i'd be quite upset to see any of them change face.

Going to the cinema on your own isnt so bad. I remember the first time I went alone. I was so scared and thought people were looking at me but there were a few other people there on their own too so I felt a bit better.

Plus it gets better the more often you do it - though I do admit I still rush out when the lights go up at the end. I havent quite managed to be THAT confident yet :D

I'm going to see it tomorrow (booked a day off work for it too see it, minus annoying people) I have to say I would not want the actors/actresses replaced in the future films if I wanted to sit down and watch them back to back it is great to see how they have changed over the series and to replace them would destroy that.
