I absolutely adored the film. It's definitely the best so far. Granted there was quite a lot of the book cut out but this can't really be avoided with such a long book.
I think Frances De La Tour was excellent as Madame Maxime. Not sure if its only me though, but did her height kinda vary throughout the film?
I've just skimmed through this thread and am suprised it was such a big hit. As a die-hard Harry Potter fan I found this film the most disappointing of all the films.
I was a little disappointed with the PoA film because it felt rushed and they missed little bits out - but they were minor and i lived with it.
In this they rushed so much and missed out so much it doesn't hold much hope for the rest of the films. I think Snape only had ONE line in the entire film.
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying it was a bad film, just that I'm disappointed with it.
I remember reading ages ago they were thinking about making this as two films (ala Kill Bill) but the only reason they didn't was because it is primarily aimed at children and if they make the film longer or in two parts the kiRAB will get bored (short attention span, etc). I could accept this but if it is primarily aimed at children why make it so that it gets a 12A certificate?
If they knew it was going to be a darker movie and would probably get a higher certifcate then they should've done it as 2 films. Think about it they would've double their box office sales without doubling the production cost - yes there'd be an increase in cost but not double.
I'll end my little rant now before I get too carried away with my disappointment.
Well, I WOULD have enjoyed the film if it hadn't been for the annoying little sh*ts behind me weren't kicking my seat the entire time! I just couldn't get into it cos everytime I tried, bang bang bang!! I told them to stop it and so did my mate on a seperate occasion but still they carried on.
At the end I had a go at them but they just looked at me blankly so I waited for them to leave, they walked to Pizza Hut so I went in there, found them with their parents and told them exactly what their little brats were up to and the mum did not look amused - the look she gave her kid was well scary!!!
Anyway, what i did manage to enjoy of the film was very good - I will have to watch it again (at a midweek late showing!) to properly appreciate it!!!
What bits would you have kept in? Do you not think that as a film, rather than a film of a book, it worked well? Remember, it's a sequel to the first three films, not the first three books and as there's been so much left out of them what could they have included?
yeh SoapBubbles just looked it up. boy dont i feel WICK!!! ah well, at least its something to look forward to in the next film!!! talking of which, that wont be out until November 2007 will it?
What?!?!?!?! NOVEMBER??? I wouldv'e thought it would be out around May time, because there's usually around a year and a half between films. If the gaps get bigger, the kiRAB are gonna age WAY too quick for their characters!
Although of course if it comes out in May it would probably be too close to the seventh book (07/07/07 - come on it's so obvious!)
I also thought it was the best film of the four, much better than the third which I actually thought was the worst.
My only real gripes are the way Barty Crouch Jr was in the opening scenes - for me the best part of the book was the big revelation at the end that Crouch faked his own death and was masquerading as Mad-Eye. Although in the film he was never actually believed dead. Still it did mean that the lovely David Tennant got more screen time than he would have if the book had been followed to the letter so I can live with it!
The other thing is that although Dumbledore mentioned priori incantatum at the end, it was never explained. So I then had to explain to my boyfriend, who hasn't read the books, why Harry and Voldemort's wanRAB connected and the "ghosts" appeared. I understand why things have to be cut, but it drives me up the wall when things are put in but only partly explained!
On the subject of swearing. When a character swears once or twice it's okay, but when they over use the same word like bloody hell, it can become meaningless over time. The first or second time it has meaning, but when it keeps getting used, it just seems like any other word.
I've just seen The Prisoner Of Azkaban and thought it was great, so lets hope the goblet of fire is just as good, or maybe even better.
Well like i said it wasn't a bad film i was just a little disapointed.
I cant remeber every little detail but my main gripe is that almost every scene was rushed.
Little things I can remember are:
- they made it too obvious that
Mad Eye was a baddie they occasionally played "bag guy" music when he was on screen. In the book they hardly ever let on.
-The Marauders Map was no where to be seen
-Dumbledore so over reacted when Harry's name came of the Goblet. Shouting at him and grabbing him.
- Priori Incantatem was hardly mentioned.
I dont recall them missing anything out of the first films. I remember them missing out a couple of key things in the third film that i knew would affect the 4th film but i forget what they are now.
Anyway its just a matter of opinion, like all films. I always knew in the back of my mind that by the time the films reached book 4 onwarRAB they would have to start really cutting stuff out. I can understand them cutting out house elves and SPEW thought because they aren't integral to the story (thought wouldn't it be funny if JK made SPEW an integral part of the 7th book - lets see them hollywood directors get round that one).
Quick review - seen all the films, never read the books. The film was OK, but felt like it had been horribly rushed in post production. The editing was bizarre - scenes appeared to end, then carry on for a few seconRAB then just disappear, for example. Storytelling too was all over the place.
A great pity as the actual content was very good - performances, effects and what story was intelligible were great. It's a shame films are made to deadlines, whether they are ready or not, but hey.
Don't suppose there'll be an alternate cut one day when they've sorted all the problems out?
Am I the only person who think's Daniel Radcliffe is a really good actor? Yeah some of it's a bit wooden but on the whole i thought he was excellent in this and i thought he had really good comedic timing as well.
I thought it was awesome, loved the whole thing, it was far funnier than i thought it would be.
I am a self confessed Harry Potter freak...REAL freak. It's scary just how much I love these books.
I also loved this film, my favourite book of the saga. I was physically shaking from crying when Cerdic died, well more the reaction from the crowd and his father. Also Harry's parents, although that could have been made more of, appearing made me cry too.
I thought the cuts did not efftect the film too much. Dobby, Winky, Bagman and Bertha are all casualties that I didn't miss too much. Cuts that I did not like were Fudge's reaction to the news that Voldermort was back,
the Lestranges not being at the trial
which will be hard to explain in the next films. I also didn't like that the audience knew that Barty Crouch Jnr was with Voldermort as that was a great twist in the book.
Acting wise - Karkaroff was brilliant, so was Rita Skeeter and Voldermort (although I always imagened him in a hood).
The scene he did in the grave yard was amazing. I Cedric really did look dead and the atmosphere was great. One thing lacking was that I though there should ahve been more Death Eaters, also it wasn't mentioned that 'my most faithful Death Eater is at Hogwarts' who now appears to be
Snape
not Crouch as was thought.
Humour wise it was really great - Hermione and Ron's argument was very funny and Malfoy being turned into a ferret (something I'm so glad they did leave out)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! by that time I'll be in my twenties too!!!! Geesch!!! I'm having images of taking my CHILDREN to see this movie and having to relive my childhood and tell them what's happened in all the films before!!! I think I'll go and cry in a quiet room lol
No your not the only one.I am amazed at how much he has improved in this film.I have only just returned from seeing it myself and i must say it was worth the wait and the late night. It is definately the best of the films and i though Mad Eye Moody's character was brilliant.
Definately go see this movie, dont wait for it to come out on dvd,it looks so great on the big screen!
