Totally agree with that definition. I would also add a film that is a breakthrough in style/special effects and narration.

I would add to those I've previously listed:

Most of the Charlie Chaplins, but especially the Gold Rush
Breathless
Three colours blue
Duel
 
French and Saunders parody of the Silence of the Lambs really illustrated massive plotholes in Demme's film that I cannot take it seriously. E.G Why the hell was Lector kept in that cage with posh furniture in that room full of paintings and only two guarRAB (everyone else was downstairs) when he could have been kept in a shithole prison cell and transferred from there.

Manhunter, now there's a Lector film (if you can get over the complete 1980's vibe).
