...terrorists and puts down Islam.? Do you believe this? If so, would you explain why and give a link to a story that has really put down Islam?

Thanks and have a great day.
Mrs. Silas - ok. But, I'll use Iran as an example, if a Muslim country calls us "The Great Satan" and the President says he want to wipe Israel off the map, shouldn't we be concerned or just ignore his words?

What about North Korea? That is in the news a lot and is called an axis of evil country, but it's not Muslim.
ghostdude! - Here's my question for you. Why try to improve the "image"? Why not actually improve the belief or the people who follow it?

These suicide/homicide/bombers that shout Allah Akbar - that's not made up. Those are the terrorists that you and I and everyone else are fighting. They use Islam, not the media. The media reports that.

There was that Muslim man in NY who was trying to improve the image of Islam too, through television. Remember? He beheaded his wife! He needed to improve himself.

Muslims need to improve themselves and the positive image will come out. With endless negative stories, such as the one I mentioned, of course people will see it as negative. The fact is the media isn't making up an image. It's giving the facts.
Some body - Could you give an example of a Muslim who shot one person and was called a terrorist?

The museum shooter has been called a bunch of things, including anti-Semitic.

The abortion doctor shooter has definitely been called a "domestic terrorist" and has caused many people to look down on all Christians. Why? Because it seems his belief, although a very messed up version of Christianity, played a major part in his decision to kill.
Isn't that true of Muslim terrorists too?
ghostdude! - Maybe they should or maybe the US was right. The choice is yours.

tush

you want the media to stop reporting negative things (western or other wise), well that's kinda easy , stop doing negative things.

extremist's love having their negativity highlighted, it feeds their mania.

This question is often hurled at Muslims, either directly or indirectly, during any discussion on religion or world affairs. Muslim stereotypes are perpetuated in every form of the media accompanied by gross misinformation about Islam and Muslims. In fact, such misinformation and false propaganda often leads to discrimination and acts of violence against Muslims. A case in point is the anti-Muslim campaign in the American media following the Oklahoma bomb blast, where the press was quick to declare a ‘Middle Eastern conspiracy’ behind the attack. The culprit was later identified as a soldier from the American Armed Forces.

Let us analyze this allegation of ‘fundamentalism’ and ‘terrorism’:

1. Definition of the word ‘fundamentalist’

A fundamentalist is a person who follows and adheres to the fundamentals of the doctrine or theory he is following. For a person to be a good doctor, he should know, follow, and practise the fundamentals of medicine. In other words, he should be a fundamentalist in the field of medicine. For a person to be a good mathematician, he should know, follow and practise the fundamentals of mathematics. He should be a fundamentalist in the field of mathematics. For a person to be a good scientist, he should know, follow and practise the fundamentals of science. He should be a fundamentalist in the field of science.

2. Not all ‘fundamentalists’ are the same

One cannot paint all fundamentalists with the same brush. One cannot categorize all fundamentalists as either good or bad. Such a categorization of any fund amentalist will depend upon the field or activity in which he is a fundamentalist. A fundamentalist robber or thief causes harm to society and is therefore undesirable. A fundamentalist doctor, on the other hand, benefits society and earns much respect.

3. I am proud to be a Muslim fundamentalist

I am a fundamentalist Muslim who, by the grace of Allah, knows, follows and strives to practise the fundamentals of Islam. A true Muslim does not shy away from being a fundamentalist. I am proud to be a fundamentalist Muslim because, I know that the fundamentals of Islam are beneficial to humanity and the whole world. There is not a single fundamental of Islam that causes harm or is against the interests of the human race as a whole. Many people harbour misconceptions about Islam and consider several teachings of Islam to be unfair or improper. This is due to insufficient and incorrect knowledge of Islam. If one critically analyzes the teachings of Islam with an open mind, one cannot escape the fact that Islam is full of benefits both at the individual and collective levels.

4. Dictionary meaning of the word ‘fundamentalist’

According to Webster’s dictionary ‘fundamentalism’ was a movement in American Protestanism that arose in the earlier part of the 20th century. It was a reaction to modernism, and stressed the infallibility of the Bible, not only in matters of faith and morals but also as a literal historical record. It stressed on belief in the Bible as the literal word of God. Thus fundamentalism was a word initially used for a group of Christians who believed that the Bible was the verbatim word of God without any errors and mistakes. According to the Oxford dictionary ‘fundamentalism’ means ‘strict maintenance of ancient or fundamental doctrines of any religion, especially Islam’. Today the moment a person uses the word fundamentalist he thinks of a Muslim who is a terrorist.

5. Every Muslim should be a terrorist

Every Muslim should be a terrorist. A terrorist is a person who causes terror. The moment a robber sees a policeman he is terrified. A policeman is a terrorist for the robber. Similarly every Muslim should be a terrorist for the antisocial elements of society, such as thieves, dacoits and rapists. Whenever such an anti-social element sees a Muslim, he should be terrified. It is true that the word ‘terrorist’ is generally used for a person who causes terror among the common people. But a true Muslim should only be a terrorist to selective people i.e. anti-social elements, and not to the common innocent people. In fact a Muslim should be a source of peace for innocent people.

6. Different labels given to the same individual for the same action, i.e. ‘terrorist’ and ‘patriot’

Before India achieved independence from British rule, some freedom fighters of India who did not subscribe to non-violence were labeled as terrorists by the British government. The same individuals have been lauded by Indians for the same activities and hailed as ‘patriots’. Thus two different labels have been given to the same people for the same set of actions. One is calling him a terrorist while the other is calling him a patriot. Those who believed that Britain had a right to rule over India called these people terrorists, while those who were of the view that Britain had no right to rule India called them patriots and freedom fighters.

It is therefore

yes i believe it because they know that if we follow islam we will rule the world like we ruled it before. so they are taking us away from islam by those dirty movies and shows and alot of other things in media.
and the biggest thing i can give you is the 9/11 even a monkey could understand that a building that big cant be destroyed by 3 of such planes and the way the towers fell down clearly showed that it was a bomb implanting.
but they said that muslims did that and made us look bad and that is not enough they kidnapped so many muslims after this.
there is a huge list of what they have done but you will get bored or start to cry if you hear that

The media doesn't have to paint Muslims as terrorists. The are doing that themselves. They are not the first nor will they be the last. The tiny island of Ireland supported three armies of terrorists as well as the kings soldiers. Muslims are in the limelight now because they seek it! Ahmad denies that 9-11 was an act of Muslim terrorism, but the fact is that osama bin laden claims responsibility! Are YOU calling him a lier? Hamas & Hezbollah use terror and you call them freedom fighters (They may be in some eyes). Why is it that Muslims NEVER accept the responsibly for their own actions?

ell . this is part of the controversy . Islam's Preaching is Against Global Economy System . which is Designed to make every body slave to a group of People . that's why a Big system have been evolved by those group and they have hijacked the Media . since they have hijacked all of the world media and they are ruling thorough it . so it is easy for them to say that all Muslims are terrorist .
imagine 1.5 Billion People are Terrorist that is 21% of the World population . so this is just a campaign against Islam . the People who observe closely will know . who is Terrorist and who is not ,
Zionist power are responsible for that .,...

The western media is unbiased and all they do is report what their journalists film and report about whats happening in muslim countries

For example today the media reports whats going on in iran and how a Taliban chap blew himself up with 10 muslims. These were filmed and seen by journalists inside iran and pakistan

So why blame the media? All they do is do their job

Here's an example. When the white supremacist shot and killed the Holocaust museum guard, no one called him a terrorist. When the Christian extremist shot and killed the Kansas abortion doctor, no one called him a terrorist. But whenever a "Muslim" commits a crime, TERRORIST!

i think the media portrays islam as a religion based on terrorism, to word it differently from your question. the facts they present everyone with are always correct, but the way they present it and put emphasis on the fact that those terrorists are muslim, and they also emphasize how several islamic countries are a threat to the u.s., while there other countries too but they dont talk about them as much.

im not muslim and it doesnt bother me much. all minorities have a special time when they are persecuted most, blacks had it, the japanese did, the jews did, mexicans and muslims are the latest.

EDIT: of course we should be concerned. im not siding with any psychotic nationalists. i dont see what youre trying to get at here...?

EDIT: i was actually thinking of north korea while typing this up. theyre a huge threat, but the media doesnt direct as much attention to them as they do to ahmedinejad

well its late here in Aust but you can look up this book:

US and THEM: a study of the deamonisation of Arabs and Muslims in the Australian Press after 9/11 by Peter manning (an associate professor of journalism at UTS)

Also:

Bin laden in the suburbs: Scott poynting - assoc prof at Uni of western sydney (UWS),

google: Tanja Dreher - she researches the same issue. at University of technology (UTS)

Kevin dunn- if you want an anaysis of what these reports do to communities (he's a social geographer, formerly University of NSW, now UWS),

also i met Dr Jake Lynch from the Centre for Peace and conflict studies CPACS (uni of sydney)- he made a point by saying "im gonna check 4 papers to see how biased they are about islam. he found that in one paper company- the word muslim was negatively associated in 50% of cases, and in another paper- they were negatively associated in 75% of cases
