Um, Yes, Peter, we DO have classes like that. It's a shame you don't have enough respect to see that Muslims are very hardworking people. You should be ashamed of yourself.
To answer your question, yes we do. There are even classes in the mosques held for memorizing the Koran and schools for learning and becoming specialized in Hadith. Every day in most mosques there is a program for people to learn to read, understand, and discuss the Koran and Hadith and understand Islam more. They can ask questions and get answers in those classes. There are also classes for specific ages, like at night around 9 pm there's a class in my mosque that's held for adolescents. Some people take these classes very seriously, and if some people that are memorizing and understanding the Koran sleep in the mosques! But those are the extremely religious Muslims. Most go there for about 4 - 5 hours a day to memorize the Koran. Mostly boys do; there are about 5 out of 12 boys in my class that have memorized the entire Koran, and I'm in 8th grade!
HOWEVER!!!
These classes are NOT obligatory! They are extreeeeeeeeeeemely recommended because what's the use of reading something without understanding it? Unlike the second answer said, there are no countries that only teach the Koran. Anyway, that would be disobeying the command of God. He says that Muslims must pursue knowledge if they are able to and go about life normally, not completely devoted to or shunning their religion. So these courses are recommended, but definitely not obligatory. ISLAM DOES NOT OPPRESS ANYONE! It's forbidden by God anyway.
