Muslim culture and dogs?

I have a Muslim neighbor who tried to kick my 5 lb dog when it tried to go up to him to be petted. He said that Muslims were not allowed to touch/see dogs for some reason. He didn't explain, but apparently hitting them is okay? Is there any truth to this, or was he just BSing me cause he hates dogs [which is like the best animal ever]?
He's my new neighbor, I didn't know he was Muslim. It's not like I go around asking people in my neighborhood their religion or who they worship, cause frankly I couldn't care less.
Also, this happened when I was walking my dog on a *public* sidewalk. Muslim or not, he has no right to try and assault someone's pet.
 
Seems like some people can take religion too seriously - any religion for that matter.
 
They seem to think that certain animals are dirty and should be wiped off the face of the planet.

There are good muslims and bad muslims..

The prophet pbuh gave a rule on animals and said that they must be treated well.There was a woman who torchered her dog i the prophets time, and the prophet heard and the pet died of hunger, then the companions said what wiill be of her? the prophet said " the fire becuase of her torchering" All animals have rights and they should NOT be kicked but respected. However, Dogs are dirty animals because u dont know where their tongues have been. They can only be kept as the following:

1)Guard Dog
2)Guide Dog
3)Hunting

Unfortunately he was hating the dogs, but remember there are good muslims and bad as there are good christians and bad.

If u judge any muslim, judge the best example and that is the prophet muhammad pbuh.

Hes not BSing you in any way. As far as hes concern, you are shitin him for letting your dog go up to him since you already know he is a muslim. Nvm about that. Now i'm telling you.

Ok this part hes wack. There is no saying in Islam that Muslims cannot SEE dogs. lol! That is totally bogus. Perhaps he was shocked and start talking nonsense.

Muslims do not hate pigs or dogs(2 animals forbidden to Muslims) but we have been commanded not to touch or consume pigs/pork and not to touch dogs. You may go,"Pigs, maybe i can understand why Muslims don't consume them due to their dirty nature, but why can't touch dog? Dogs are cute."

This is one of many mysterious rules that God strictly commanded to all Muslims. Ultimately there are reasons why we can't touch them.

Even so, there are many Muslim vets and doctors in the world whom due to their profession or studying purposes, they are allowed to touch pigs(not consume) and dogs. After that they must wash themselves thoroughly.

Muslims are allowed to own dogs to guard his property or any other purposes where dog is needed. That if he/she wealthy enough to employ the dogs keeper whom a non-muslim of coz to take good care of them.

So now you know and do respect others faith and believes. Their belief to be different from yours doesn't mean they are stupid or low life idiots, or any different from you. You like dogs and i like cats. It's my choice and that's your choice. I like Evo and you like Subaru. It's about choises and beliefs.
 
Some of them consider dogs unclean, but it is more of a cultural issue. I know many muslims who have a dog. Your neighbour is a bigot.
