Musicians that weren't cut out for fame.

John idolized Elvis, but was always more of a poet than Paul if you ask me (though paul was quite poetic). Paul was always more of the business man. Paul loved the limelight, touring, the fans, and all that came with it. John hated it. You can hear it in his voice and in his humor in interviews. The only thing that really kept the band together was Brian Epstein. his death was the beginning of the end.

Yoko and New York were good for john. in the end, I think he figured out how to handle it all and i think he was happy (being a "housewife" and stuff). but living with all the crazed, chaotic fame that came with the beatles was just too much for him. Look at pictures from his time in the late sixties and early seventies and compare it to pictures of him in the late seventies. it's a shame, once his life started getting good, it was taken from him.

and, Neapolitan, great call with Syd Barrett! He totally slipped my mind! (i'd also throw out michael jackson, townes van zandt, and maybe elliott smith. though his girlfriend totally killed him).

Just one of his more recognised pictures I think, the gig itself was a stand out gig.. the picture's on canvases and stuff like that. Surprised you haven't seen it

Yeah I don't know how to feel about that. My instinct tells me that they were fine with it until a certain point, and once you can't go anywhere without being "beloved" I think your world view is altered. I mean, its not natural to walk through the streets and have everyone walk up to you and say they love you.

i think part of me would just like to experience the world sometimes and not be the world.

Axl anyway. the same thing may have happened to sly, but ultimatly the drugs took him.

I was attempting to, you know... reply to the thread topic. I was under the illusion that was kind of how rabroad works?

edit: Yeah, what Janszoon said.

Oh I know, not knocking his ability or anything. I love SR S/T.. I just think he wanted to express himself as a painter not a rock star. Even if the legal thing never happened I could've seen Squire going in that direction anyway, I think that was his true passion. When he was on the culture show he wanted to talk about his art NOT The Stone Roses..

He just couldn't be **** enough to say "hey man, I cannot afford to pay you to do nothing on tour."

He'd have been fine if he didn't employ all his frienRAB from home. Decent guy though.

News flash! not everyone has to choose between mom and dad at age 5. Then is sent to live with his aunt because his mom couldn't take care of him. Then at age 17 sees his mom get hit by a car and killed. And is totally abandoned by his father. Then is thrust into the limelight.
I don't think he really handled fame well until the very end living with Yoko in NY.
The point is that he wasn't cut out for fame. I think it would've been much better for him to never have gone into the business, but I sure am glad he did.
Yeah, everyone's got family problems to an extent. John's childhood was pretty traumatic. It's not the main reason for his problems later in life, but it sure played a part in it.
Listen to the songs "Julia," "Mother," and "My Mummy's Dead." Haunting. You can't deny that the guy was troubled. The pressures of fame is one of the last things a guy like he needed.

And a persons social problems are never just because they're weird. They're always caused by something (be it a mental or physical problem or experience or belief...something).
