Musicals

The Blues Brothers and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are my two favorite movies/musicals. I also like Fiddler on the roof, The Pirates of Penzance, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Evita.

Okay, so my guilty pleasure are musicals...example... 7 brides for 7 brothers, the music man, oklahoma, my fair lady, phantom of the opera, the newsies..etc.. I love them! Anyone else have a fetish? I think they are so romantic and innocent, unlike most of the trash on t.v. these days. They are really neat to watch.. oh and White Christmas is the BEST christmas movie ever. I love Bing Crosby! Alright.. well...comments?

nobodys mentioned Hair besides me? cmon whats better than a bunch of hippies doing drugs and dodging the draft while running around singing songs? really though, its a decent movie with or without the songs. I wont give away the ending, but its quite sad.

only musicals i can bare to watch all the way through that i can think of right now would be Rocky Horror Picture Show, Grease, and Hair

It's a very memorable musical Fenixpunk, even though I think I've only ever seen it once.
Two songs I really like from this are "age of aquarius" I think it was also by a group called 5th Dimension??? (which version came 1st I dunno). I also loved and still do a song called Ain't got no/I got life by Nina Simone which you may recall resurfaced in a commercial for something.
I think the stage musical of Hair caused some big kerfuffle on either Broadway or in The West End because of nudity within the production. I'm sure I've seen B&W archive footage showing Oliver Tobias with his winkle out whilst being danced around by a gaggle of hippy girls.
Another thing Fenixpunk, in Hair is there an actual song called "Manchester, England"?
I reckon this thread is good one as I never thought banter about musicals could be so entertaining.

On the whole I don't care for musicals as just when I'm getting into the plot and song and dance breaks out and spoils the film & story. I can understand why you like them Dotem as my mother does too.
I have enjoyed a few films where music is a feature though. Over the years these have been ones such as Grease. I really loved the songs Grease lightning and wanted Olivia Neutron Borab as my girlfriend when she sung Your the one that I want in the fairground scene. She was georgeous in that outfit and hair. I was 10 at the time.

I also love the songs in Gene Wilders, Charlie & the chocolate factory. I especially liked The Umpah Lumpah song. I also liked the one spoilt Veruca Salt sings when her rich father gets his factory workers to search for tickets.
I didn't realise I liked all these. Memorys are flooding back. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is another fave of mine.

ya, theres a song called manchester england, theres alot of good songs in it. The song Aint Got No Life, if youre old enough, youll notice that it is sung by the lady from the old show "Give me a Break".

I know what you mean. The music features but it doesn't take over. It takes over for me in Oliver Twist musical film from The 60s. The one where Mark Lester plays Oliver. I suppose I shouldn't complain as it was intended to be a musical.
I love the music in The Wizard of Oz. I love the film completely and Fenixpunk I bet you've tried playing Dark side of the moon to The wizard of Oz as bandied about through Urban myth and tried to create your own trippy musical. Me and a mate tried it some years ago and convinced ourselves it worked. After all this time I'm not sure if it did or were we just pretending to ourselves it did. I must try it again sometime.

West Side Story - was'nt that based on Romeo & Juliet?
And that old classic - Seven Brides for Seven Brothers springs to mind.

of course, who hasnt?? i think the trick to getting it cued up right was to start the cd when the mgm lion roars for the second time, i dont really remeraber, but i think thats how it works. Some parts of the movie did seem to go along perfect with the cd whether or not it was ever intended too. And it made the movie that much more interesting.

i lurve that film! its one of my favourite musicals (im also a musical fan). age of aquarius is one of my favourites, and manchester england. and i love the bit where they're singing about black and white boys...only in the seventies could you get away with that. didnt like the ending though!
hmmm musicals i like...blues brothers, rocky horror, little shop of horrors, moulin rouge, evita, busgy malone (love it!), chitty chitty bang bang was quite good...and of course the old classic, the sound of music. although the film gets boring when you've seen it too much. ooh also love chicago, les miserables (that was finished on the island i live on!)...im sure theres plenty more.

and yes, west side story is loosely based on romeo and juliet

That would have been easier with a cd, for starting it just at the precise moment. It was probably too fiddly at the time for me trying cue up a vinyl whist, say being under the influence. I don't recall knowing I should start the experiment as the mgm lion roars for the second time. That may have been another factor in any doubt I felt.
I reckon there are loaRAB of people who have not heard of this Floyd/Oz connection Fenixpunk.
