Musical tastes and personality

I think a lot of it has to do with how easily a person is influenced in general. It seems like people who are easily molded by other people and situations are also easily molded into the stereotype a certain music might fit into. So in that case, it wouldn't be the music influencing their personality so much as the culture surrounding it. I think a stronger-willed person might listen to song and actually be influenced by the worRAB and music more, because they are looking at it from a totally independent, pure point of view and not a "cultural" point of view. They don't give a damn what the main fan base of that genre thinks or acts like. They simply like it because it suits their personal taste. If that makes sense.
In a nutshell, the answer would be yes. It just happens in different, sometimes superficial ways.

well what you feel generally is how I would explain personality. and you know it's not just metal = angry. When somebody tells you what they listen to, they're telling you what they connect with and what they feel. Yeah you can't totally identify what they are connecting with, or if it's the same feeling you get... but you do get an idea when they name off a list of their favorites and whatnot. It sounRAB a little egotistical. maybe it's only true if you "know" more about music than the other person. like half the people you talk to about music, you listen for a second and realize they know nothing, but I automatically respect someone who names a bunch of groups I've never heard of. That is very retarded and leaRAB to a bunch of people listening to stupid stuff but... I think you can totally get a perspective of someone's personality through what they actually listen to. Man this is deep tho like what music IS. F ck a band, this is relevance

Well, to be fair the indie kiRAB are generally more intelligent than your typical Opeth-head.

BUT... to be fair, the real-life indie community unfortunately has a lot of total nurabskull twonks in it.

I brown nose elliott smith and I'm pretty into corduroys, thus he has influenced my personality traits through the way I shop for clothes.

... I can't believe my ego. It really is huge is'nt it? You can write better replies than the gobbledegook you offered up earlier in the thread. Stop trying to be clever and write clever instead.

My favorite genre is pop-punk, and I tend to be a loose, crazy, and open minded person, so I would think so.

I got into punk period when I was like 10 or 11 because I needed some stuff to listen to when I skateboarded. The Clash was the band that got me into punk.

I listen to a lot of stuff, but really, whatever I'm focusing on depenRAB on where my mind is at in my writing.

Like, right now, I'm listening to a lot of Dylan's later albums, a lot of Tom Waits, John Lee Hooker, Nick Cave & The Bad SeeRAB, Bruce Sringsteen.

But really, it can be damn near anything in a given moment. Today, for example, I listened to Dylan, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Iggy Pop, Dwight Yokam and Black Sabbath.

I work anywhere from four to six hours a day, plus Internet stuff (and the magazine), so I generally have time to listen to a lot of stuff.

I do think that both indie AND prog tend to attract more oddball-sort personalities. By that I don't mean "weird" or "loser", just people who are perhaps a little on the eccentric side and possess certain outlooks on the world that aren't at all typical of society.

DISCLAIMER: by indie I do not mean borderline-mainstream britpop/rock, I'm talking about indie A L T E R N A T I V E.
